A Mason Bee (Osmia spp.) is a Minnesota native bee. They are smaller than a Bumblebee, less fuzzy and have a metallic blue body. Mason bees nest in hollowed out plant stems, and are the residents of those reed bee boxes. Mason bees are general foragers although are best known for pollinating fruit trees and shrubs such as apples and blueberries.

Minnesota is home to appx. 20 species of native Bumblebees (Bombus spp.) These fuzzy, bumblers help pollinate wild flowers and crops. Tomatoes and peppers benefit from their "buzz pollination" which dislodges pollen trapped in a flower's anthers. Bumblebees are considered general foragers and do not depend on a specific plant species.

🐝June is Pollinator Month🦋 Keep pollinators 🐝June is Pollinator Month🦋
Keep pollinators in mind when planting your perennial and annual gardens. Native perennials provide a sustainable food source for pollinators. The bright blooms of annuals attracts pollinators to the garden and provides early food before many perennials come into bloom.
